Fruit Salad Bio

Hi! I’m Micaela Hoo, an Oakland, California-based blogger, wellness advocate, and lifestyle entrepreneur. Welcome to Fruit Salad! I love color, crunchy apples, banana motifs, summertime, and a good meme. I’m an extroverted introvert, an optimistic cynic, and a sucker for nostalgia with passion for sustainable living.

I also run Drifter Organics, a line of certified organic, certified cruelty-free, vegan, and non-GMO skincare.

In November 2008, I started a blog called Drifter & the Gypsy. I was 14 years old. I had just moved to California from Connecticut and started my freshman year of high school. I was overwhelmed, needing an outlet for self-expression. Drifter & the Gypsy enabled me to cope with the anxieties of change. Through this medium of communication, I was able to connect with others in similar situations and thereby harness our talents to accomplish something positive, while promoting a healthful lifestyle.

In October of 2015 I renamed my blog to Oh My Drifter. You can read the reasons behind that decision here. In December of 2018, I renamed my blog to Fruit Salad. Fruit Salad is a multimedia women’s fashion and lifestyle brand. The Fruit Salad tagline is “Keep it sweet and make your own salad.” We all have our own thoughts, dreams, and aspirations. That’s what makes up our salad — and we should be keeping things sweet, or in other words, looking at our glass half full. If we live for others’ dreams, we’d be eating their salad which isn’t polite now, is it? Through a thriving blog, YouTube channel, and Instagram platform, I strive to help hundreds of thousands of millennial women get in touch with their life, style, emotions, and relationships by producing daily content within the genres of fashion, beauty, health, wellness, and lifestyle.

I have a truckload of gut issues and eat a mainly fruitarian diet. One afternoon, while I was cutting up fruit, the name came to me: Fruit Salad! Fruit Salad has meaning to me because I pretty much eat fruit salad every day and my thoughts are very creative and scattered, like a fruit salad, but mainly sweet and positive—only occasionally do you run into a rotten piece with mold. My mom’s specialty for any dinner party is fruit salad, so some of my earliest childhood memories were spent in the kitchen with her helping her carve a watermelon basket to make a fancy fruit salad.
