The Last Lolita

It’s been quite some time since I last did an outfit post, so here you go. I haven’t done outfit pictures (aside from quick Instagram snaps here and there) because I’ve been making a lot of YouTube videos. While I was editing these pictures and jamming out to Iliza Shlesinger’s podcast aka my latest pleasure (side note: I wouldn’t call it a “guilty pleasure” because there’s nothing guilty about it. I listen to it while I WORK for goodness sake yet my saying “latest pleasure” sounds like it’s missing something #randommusings.) ANYWAY. While I was in my editing groove with Iliza playing in the background, I was like, I really miss this. Because, you see, I can’t listen to music while I edit video because I’m editing audio.

My word for 2019 is “expand” and the purpose of this year was for me to grow — propel myself into new experiences and expand the boundaries of my comfort zone to wider parameters. I rebranded my blog, launched a YouTube channel, got Drifter Organics into a major retail store (!!! more on that soon!!!), and have read (okay, listened to, but that still counts) more books than I read in the past four years combined. With the lease of my Oakland apartment being up in August, I am figuring out where I want to settle down and land.

On a personal front, I worked out less than I have in years, got less sleep than ever before, yet took care of myself more than I ever have in other regards — like regularly facial massaging and being present in my body. Right now, I’m trying to balance all these things. I created an anonymous survey that you can fill out to let me know how you’re liking my current content and if you’d like to see anything else from me because of course I want you to be enjoying what I create as much as I enjoy creating it.

This is probably one of my favorite outfits I’ve ever worn to-date. I don’t even know what you’d call this style (colorful yet muted? feminine? eclectic? fun?), but I feel like it’s really me. This is my favorite time of the year because the weather is warming up and the days are long and I want to record that now. I want to be able to appreciate where I am right now despite feeling so unsettled. I wish I had the answers to more questions, like how often I’ll post to this blog or my YouTube channel and if I’ll stay in the area or move elsewhere after my lease is up, but I’m trying to lean into my uneasiness about uncertainty and sit with it — roll around in my discomfort until I can fully surrender and enjoy the journey.

I find it easier to write instead of talk in front of the camera, but I feel like me making regular Instagram Stories and YouTube videos has shown you another part of my personality that I can’t convey through words and pictures and I like that, even if I look back to what I’ve created literally 3 days ago and I’m like “Ughhhh this is so cringe.” (I’m actually currently cringing at my use of the word “cringe,” but I’ve got no other words, so there you have it.) I’m just trying to figure out my balance between posting pics and vids and being on social media enough without being obsessed. All I know is I’ve been saying “Yes” to lots of things that make me (healthfully) uncomfortable and I’m debunking a lot of my fears. I’m getting there.
