Top 10 Instagram Spots in San Francisco!

I moved to the Bay Area 11 years ago and in that time, I’ve discovered sooooo many gems to visit in San Francisco. For years, I’ve had people ask me if I had a guide of places to visit in San Francisco. I plan on making a fully comprehensive (maybe multiple part) guide eventually, but for now, here’s my first YouTube video of my top 10 Instagram spots in San Francisco that you can cover in a weekend.

1.
Billy Goat Hill
2442 Castro St

Most travel guides will tell you to go to Twin Peaks or Coit Tower for a panoramic view of San Francisco, but Billy Goat Hill has just as incredible of a view of the city and is 100% less crowded. The Diamond Heights neighborhood the park is in is adorable, quiet, and quaint.

2.
The Mill
736 Divisadero St

The Mill is a rustic meets contemporary coffee shop known for its $7 toast, latte art, open floor plan, natural light, exposed beams, and white marble tables. They homemake their bread on site and have pizza night every evening 6-9 pm.

3.
Painted Ladies
Steiner St + Hayes St

Famous for being in the opening credits of Full House, the Painted Ladies are a row of photogenic Victorian homes conveniently located a few blocks down from The Mill. Pro tip: the Painted Ladies face west, so afternoon/early evening is the best time for pictures.

4.
SFMOMA
151 3rd St

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art aka SFMOMA got renovated about three years ago and is just as much of an architectural attraction as it is for its modern art collection. In addition to its modern art collection, the 7-floor building boasts a Sightglass Coffee, modern cafe, living wall of 19,000 plants, sculpture garden, tons of natural light, and views of downtown San Francisco. The variety of Instagram pictures you can get here are really endless.

5.
General Store
3928 Irving St
+
4035 Judah St

General Store is a lifestyle shop with locations in San Francisco and Los Angeles. They sell beautifully curated clothing, homewares, apothecary items, jewelry, and books all with a West Coast feel. Everything in the store is ethically-made by independent designers and artists, so just be aware that their prices reflect that. They have two San Francisco locations: Irving St and Judah St. General Store on Irving carries solely homewares while their Judah Street location carries everything else. The Irving Street location is known for its round built-in shelf while their Judah Street location is Instagram famous for its arch and mini greenhouse in the back.

6.
Cafe Réveille
610 Long Bridge St

Cafe Reveille has a few Bay Area locations, but their location in the Mission Bay neighborhood is the most photogenic in my opinion. I love their sophisticated meets modern with a hint of ’60s style aesthetic and the pink tables outside.

7.
Wallflower
1176 Valencia St

If you want to buy vintage but don’t feel like thrifting, Wallflower has a carefully selected variety of vintage clothing, accessories, and home decor. The interior is quirky and colorful and browsing through the racks is always a fun visual and tactile experience. They also have really pretty dressing rooms if you’re looking for a solid mirror selfie.

8.
Clarion Alley
Mission and Valencia St + 17th and 18th St

Clarion Alley has the most murals in one place to get the most bang for your Instagram buck! It’s a long alley completely covered with murals from all different artists. A lot of the murals have political and social themes which gets you thinking on a philosophical level. At any given time during the day, you can find people wandering through the alleyway taking pictures, though I’ve never experienced it being so busy, you can’t get your shot.

9. Ampersand
80 Albion St

Ampersand is a flower shop down the street from Clarion Alley tucked away on a quiet side street in the middle of the Mission District. In addition to selling flowers and plants, they also create installations for galas, weddings, and other fancy affairs. If their turquoise barn doors aren’t enough to catch your eye, the interior has enough flowers to populate a forest and you can build your own bouquet.

10.
Crissy Field
~926 Mason St

Crissy Field is a recreation center that’s half park and half beach and has one of the best views of the Golden Gate Bridge. The closest you can get to the bridge without it being so large you can’t fit it in your frame is the Crissy Field promenade. There’s a beachy area beyond the promenade where I shot this video that’s usually quiet, making it ideal for pictures.

I had so much fun filming and shooting the Instagram photos for this video. The FSTV YouTube Channel officially launches in January, but I wanted to soft launch with this pilot episode for anyone who may be traveling to San Francisco during the holidays. Are you traveling anywhere during this holiday season? Maybe you’re even traveling to San Francisco and this guide helps you! Even if you aren’t, still check out the video because San Francisco is my favorite city in the world, will always has a special spot in my heart, and you should plan to visit in the future! This is my last post of 2018, so I hope you have a great end of the year and I’ll see you in January with the full YouTube launch!
